In the land of safaris, you’re spoilt for choice!
There’s Tsavo National Park, divided into East and West, where ironically many years after two lions named The Ghost and The Darkness terrorised the railway workers that worked the land, the remote landscape attracts visitors for its large lion populations. Amboseli, famous for its herds of wild elephants, offers a different experience.
Mt Kenya, looms over the landscape where big-tusked elephants, zebras and wildebeest roam. In the capital, Nairobi, the Giraffe Centre and the David Sheldrick Elephant and Rhino Orphanage are great for introducing young children to wildlife. A short drive away is Lake Naivasha, where you can sip a signature Rift Valley red as you take a boat ride through blue waters with hippos lolling in the shallows.
At Hell’s Gate National Park, the inspiration behind the Disney classic The Lion King, ditch the jeep and go on a walking safari, before making your way to the famed Masai Mara. Teeming with wildlife and home to the colourful and energetic Maasai tribespeople, it’s your typical African cliche, but in the best way possible.
But as you experience the raw beauty of the wild, the excitement of animal-sightings running high, remember to relax, take it all in and Hakuna Matata!
